"... In Keystone we did catch a $22 round-trip train ride to Hill City where we got to relax and take in the sights while onboard a vintage steam train. Train conductors offered interesting narrative, and we were able to eat our picnic lunch as we went.

In fact, the best thing about Keystone was the place where we got our food for the picnic lunch: Teddy's Deli (www.teddysdeli.com). We were running extremely short on time and rushed into the restaurant to order.

The server was as polite as we were rushed, and his hands flew as he made our sandwiches. He got me the sandwiches in time to run to the station right as boarding began. More than that, the food was exceptional, tasting as good as homemade sandwiches with bread that didn't fall apart in our hands as we ate it.

The food was some of the most reasonably priced we saw during the trip. I would definitely recommend Teddy's if you ever venture that way. ..."

An Ode to Teddy's Buffalo Chili Dogs
As scrawled on a napkin by

I just stopped here at Teddy's
To put their hot dog to the test
I even covered it with Buffalo Chili
To see if it's as good as all the rest

Well Partner, I gotta tell you
You haven't eaten till you've had their dog
All covered in Buffalo Chili
It'll never float, like the old pine log

This dog is gonna rock you
It'll send your hunger out for a stroll
This dog is super tasty
And it's on the freshest roll

Thank you for serving me Teddy's
Will I see you once again?
You can bet your bottom dollar
And I'll even bring a friend

Best place in town!

Coming from Houston and used to places like The Brown Bag Deli, this was like a taste of home with that small town charm. You can't go wrong when you design your own sandwich... and if you don't like it, you can't blame the establishment for your sandwich design. The guys behind the counter are super friendly, when we visited they had only been open for a month. I can already tell you that this place with take off in this small town. It also helps that the cousin of one of the owners has an attacked candy store right next door called the "Whistle Stop Candy Shoppe"; a wonderful perk for any candy lover. The local soda pop bottle selections is great. If they have it that day, try the buffalo chili; AWESOME family recipe. :)

Had the good fortune to find this place on a recent visit.Had the reuben- it is everything I want a reuben to be!!! Plenty of meat, melty cheese, and the right amount of dressing. Grilled to perfection-and the guys behind the counter are priceless! Enthusiastic and helpful and good-natured- everything I want a deli guy to be!!! Everyone in my party had a great lunch- sorry we are from out of town and won't be able to eat here more often! The Teddy Sauce is perfect- tangy and savory and appetite-heightening. May good fortune smile upon you fellows!

A welcome change

Teddy's deli offers a berak from the other dining institutions in Keystone, the majority of which offer sub-par dining at inflated prices. Teddy's offers customizable sandwich options, specialty sandwiches, and PB&J's, a nice inexpensive option for the little ones. Reasonable prices and a super friendly staff make this a welcome change from the usual overpriced feed lines and greasy fast food options.

After eating at a few of the "Family Restaurants" in Keystone and realizing that they had horrible food and were extremely over priced, I was starting to become disillusioned. Then I noticed Teddy's Deli across from our hotel. I walked in a little skeptical since everywhere else in Keystone feels like a tourist trap. First we were greeted by a group of super friendly guys behind the counter. They helped us with the ordering process and were so nice. My husband ordered "The Teddy" and I had just a simple PB&J. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. It was so good in fact, we went back the next day to pick up sandwiches for a picnic in Custer State Park. Just like Teddy Roosevelt was the "working man's friend", Teddy's Deli is the "Vacationer's Friend" with wonderful service, great food, and outstanding prices. Thank you Teddy's Deli for helping to make our Keystone trip wonderful!!
